The Face Shop Charcoal Phyto Cleanser

Hey Ladies,

The weather is finally cooling down and we can finally break out the jackets, scarves, and boots! So excited!

So I've been using a cleanser from The Face Shop for about a month. The Charcoal Phyto Cleanser is semi-gentle and cleans pretty well. I say that it's "semi-gentle" because after washing your face and patting it dry, you can feel just a litto teensy bit of that dry tightness that you get from harsh cleansers. You can also feel a slight prickly feeling while the cleanser is on your face. I don't consider my skin as sensitive so I'm thinking that it's how the cleanser is.

I don't know if I would repurchase this cleanser since I don't actually see any benefits from using this besides that it cleans my skin pretty thoroughly. Each tube of this costs about $10 and there are other varieties including green tea (which I will be reviewing after I have used it for a longer period of time).

New Nail Polish For Fall

Hey girls,

I have been so bogged down with work and school starting that I didn't have time to post. But now since school has started for about 3 weeks now and I finally have adjusted to the flow of things, I'll be posting more often. :)

So the other day I had some time so I popped into Walgreens and Duane Reade to browse. I wound up buying 5 bottles of nail polish which is something I try not to do since I'm running out of space in my nail polish drawer!

Not all the nail polish was interesting. I had to buy a plain black and a plain white since I feel like these are staples that I should have. Mine dried out since they were pretty old so I decided to get some replacements! Now on to the more interesting colors. Since Autumn is fast approaching, I wanted to get a deeper color. I wound up getting "Siberian Nights" from OPI. It's a deep plum color that suits the crispness of Autumn.

I've been into glitter lately. I wound up buying 2 glitter top coats. Revlon has a new glitter top coat called "Galaxy" which has black, blue and silver glitter with some chunkier hexagonal iridescent glitter too. I think it would look good paired over a dark color. Putting it over a light color might not be too appealing since the black glitter will seem too jarring and out of place. In the picture below I paired it up with "Metro Chic" from Sephora by OPI since it's an in between color so you can see what I mean about it looking better with dark colors.

The second glitter nail polish I got was from Sinful Colors called "Frenzy". It really is a frenzy of colors. It's all purple and blue glitter. It reminds me of "It's Bouquet With Me" from Sephora by OPI.

I've also been really liking this base coat lately. My polish is able to stay un-chipped for about a week under normal circumstances. It's the Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat. It may look white in the picture and in the bottle but it goes on clear.

I guess that's it for now. Posts will be more frequent since I've gotten into the rhythm of things :)

Emjoi Epi Slim Cosmetic Hair Remover (Epilator)

So today, we're going to talk about armpits. That's right, this will be a review of an epilator I recently tried. Now, I'm usually a fan of waxing or plucking underarm hair but there are two problems with that: time and money. Depending on the rate of hair growth, one would need more waxing appointments, which on average cost about $10 near where I am. This can add up very quickly so of course you then venture out to pluck them yourself. This is great, but it takes a lot of time and patience (also a lot of neck pain afterwards). So I got lazy and decided to try out an epilator. An epilator is basically a tool that does the plucking for you, electronically. They come in a range of sizes, battery operated or rechargeable. I still wasn't too sure on how this would work for me so I decided to test out a cheaper and smaller version. I chose a smaller sized one in hopes that the level of pain would be reduced, but also keep in mind that might take longer to get every hair out. I read some reviews and they were pretty mixed on the how painful it actually is since everyone has a different level of tolerance. But if you are accustomed to waxing and plucking anyway, this shouldn't be any more painful. After a while your endorphins kick in and it's all swell. =) Alright, so enough of all these words on the screen, let's see some pictures!

This is the Emjoi Epi Slim. Can be purchased from Amazon or Target.They run from $15- $20.

These are not blades. When it spins, the metal plates come together pulling the hair out.

Requires 2 AA batteries.

And it comes with a tiny brush to sweep out the hairs stuck between the plates. Cleaning it is essential because it causes the gap to be smaller, effectively pulling out the hair.

Verdict: Will definitely by again!

Epilators aren't as scary anymore and I might even venture out and try out the larger version of this, as this is meant for travelling. On the instructions, they suggest that you use this in a circular motion to reduce the amount of tension in one area so less pain is felt. However, I find that even without using it in a circular motion, it is still virtually pain free. It's more of a shocking sensation that you feel initially, but after the first 10 seconds, it's nothing much. They also advertise that it's effective in removing hair from the bikini area, I would think that it definitely will be more painful. I personally did not try it so I cannot speak for it's effectiveness. But for the underarms, this is something that I highly suggest you ladies try.

Side Question: Any of you ladies have a remedy for insect bites? I'm not even sure if it was mosquito that bit me, but I was bitten 4 times on my foot! Now it's red and swollen- so gross. Please let me know what you use to aid in the healing process. :)

So I ended up buying more nail polishes and make up. >_<

Hard Candy's Mr. Wrong.

Found this at Walmart for $5. Application was smooth and non streaky but it's to be expected of such glitter polishes. Pictures shown are 2 coats, no base or top coat.

This was purchased a while ago from Mitsuwa. It's a sheer light pink lip balm. Goes on smoothly and isn't sticky!

And here's the very last item...OPI's Only Gold For Me! Super chunky glitter that goes on smooth while adding just the right amount of sparkle to the nails. Lovee! Here, I topped it over OPI's Miso Happy With This Color. 2 coats.

Essie's Van D'Go

Revlon's Peach Petal:

This color isn't truly portrayed in the picture above but it took 3 coats to achieve. The formula is extremely streaky. The only upside is that it dries super quickly. If you have the patience for streaky polishes, give this a go. Otherwise, save your money.

A couple of weeks ago I went biking in the blazing heat and decided that my hair needed to be up that day. I didn't want to do a regular pony tail so I added some twists to my bangs.

And here's the back of the tank top I wore that day.

Pretty cool, right? It was a gift from a good friend. =)

So as Diana mentioned in her last post, we went to get Calgel nails recently.

Sorry the picture quality isn't so good. I'm not quite sure what to say about the quality. I haven't gotten any chipping yet but 3 out of 10 rhinestones have already fallen off. =/

But on a random, happier note, I stopped by the Toys R Us in Times Square the other day and saw some really cute candy that I couldn't resist buying!

I bought a My Melody Pez dispenser. SO CUTE! There were Hello Kitty ones too but I'm not a big fan of Hello Kitty so I got the My Melody one instead. I also bought a . . .

Keroppi Tin! Inside are apple sour candy.

Yea, this is sort of random but sometimes I'm a total sucker for cute things.

Review: Goody Modern Updo Maker

The Goody Modern Updo Maker seemed to be the answer to creating sleek 'dos effortlessly. I had pretty high hopes when I first purchased this from Duane Reade. Running at $7, it claims that three styles can be attained with this tool. So far, I've only been able to master the "Modern Updo," which is essentially a french twist. The other two styles are just variations of this: using it to put up only half of your hair or letting the ends hang over the bun part. It's not rocket science, nor impossible, but a learning curve is involved.

Pros:

Easy to use once you get the hang of the technique.
Great alternative to a pony tail when you want your hair up.
Price is fairly reasonable, considering that it can last you a long time. (However, there is a paint problem that I will address later.)

Cons:

Instructions on box are not clear. You probably have to google or youtube how to use this.
Takes many attempts to make it stable and tight enough hair doesn't slip out.
It might just be me, but for the updo with the ends hanging over the bun, it seems to look weird with my straight hair. I would see this working better for those with curly, wavy hair.
Could be painful if used too closely to the scalp. When you flip the bun and insert, it may be too tight, thus pulling on your hair.
Only two color selections: Blonde or Brunette. Brunette being a light bronze color.
The color of the tool is actually coats of paint...that chips off.

Note the paint chip. Keep in mind I have been using this for only about a week. Because you want your hair to be secure, constant friction against the tool wears away the paint. But seriously, after only one week? Okay, so you can't see it once it's in your hair, but every time you use it, paint will be coming off.

Anyway, here are pics on how it actually looks like once you get it to work.

Would I recommend it? I really don't know. It's something that you just have to try out for yourself and see how much it works for you. Considering that I have long, layered, thick hair, it will probably be easier for someone who has less layers and such. On occasion, I can get this to work, but if I'm in a rush Monday morning, I wouldn't bother with this.

Onto something that makes me happier: Calgel nails! Winsley and I got them done last week. There will probably be a picture of Winsley's nails in the next post, but for now, you get to see mine.

Hair and Nails

I dyed my hair last week since my highlights were growing out and starting to look brassy. I figured that I would go darker so my new hair growth would transition into the dyed parts. Hopefully, that will be the case and that the dye wont fade too much.

So this is what I used: (sorry for the poor quality pic, courtesy of google)

I guess it's not that different, but I'm glad the color evened out a bit.

Now onto the nails. This is just two coats of the face shop's nail color in RD 301. Can't say much for the lasting power because I painted konad and glitter polish over two days later.

Konad done with plate m63. I used the green polish from the Icing set I got a couple of weeks ago. I don't bother buying the "special" polishes for konad because you can just use regular polish. Just choose extreme colors and expect the results to be a bit muted. Plus, it's a good way to use up your current colors, especially if they are colors you don't use often.

I figured I needed to glam them up a bit more so I added one layer of Milani's "Disco Lights." See the spahkleee?

Collective Haul

Hey Ladies,

Today's post is gonna be a collective haul from Sasa, Canada and various places in NYC. Be forewarned, this post is very picture heavy! ^.~

Let me start off with a pic of how my nails look today:

All I used was clear nail polish and some very fine white iridescent glitter. Its just a simple semi-clean look.

Now on to the haul! Diana and I did some online shopping at Sasa and picked up a "few" items. hehe.

I picked up some nail art glitter. Now I can go crazy with the bling!

Pink grapefruit scented oil blotting sheets!

Since there have been such good reviews about the Laneige Strawberry Yogurt Pack, I thought it is time for me to give it a try. When I opened it, it smelled EXACTLY like strawberry yogurt. Yum! I think it's gonna take a lot a will power to keep from licking it when I have it on my face lol.

This is supposed to be a very good spot whitening serum. And that fact that it's limited edition. . . just gotta give it a try!

decided to get a mask bowl set. it'll come in handy one day right? It comes with measuring spoons, the bowl, a brush and a spatula. The green color wouldn't have been my first choice but they didn't let you choose the color. :(

I totally forgot the purpose of this, but it's SO CUTE!!

I've heard a lot about Skin Food masks so I decided to pick one up. Smells soooo good!

When I went to Montreal I saw GOSH products at a pharmacy called PharmaPrix. I wanted to try at least one product from them since GOSH isn't sold in the US. I decided to pick up a lip gloss.

There really isn't a color to it. It mostly goes on clear. Its not really sticky and its really smooth.

I didn't really get much in Montreal. Was too busy sightseeing lol

Went to Walgreens a while ago and picked up the Mega Shine top coat and the new Sally Hansen Continuous Treatment for strength.

I've been using it for about 3 weeks now and I really like the Mega Shine. It's supposed to make your nails look super shiny, make your manicure last for 10 days and it's also supposed to dry in 60 seconds. It does make my nails really shiny and it does dry in 60 seconds but if your nail polish underneath is not completely dry, and you accidentally brush your nails against something, it won't mess up your nails like usual, it will cause wrinkles in your nail polish though since the top coat as already completely dried. I haven't really been able to test out the claim about the manicure lasting for 10 days since I do my nails so often, I very rarely keep the same nail polish on for 10 days. As for the Continuous Treatment for strength, I really haven't noticed a difference in the strength of my nails. I guess I'll test it out for a while longer.

My MAC Technakohl eyeliner broke so I had to go get a new one :(

I also got the Konad system. It takes some practice but after I got used to it, I'm really liking it!

Hot Summer, Hot Color!

Hey girls,

I know I haven't updated in such a long time but I've been a little too busy with school and work. No summer vacay for me :( I finally have a chance to post on the blog even though this is a short post. Just wanted to share what color I'm currently wearing on my nails.

Where has DiWi been?

Sorry for the lack of posts. I've just been really caught up with work and just going out in general. Waking up so early in the morning = no mood to take OOTD. As for the FOTD, my makeup has pretty much just been eyeliner and mascara, nothing exciting. My workplace is pretty conservative so that also means no bright, fun, summer polishes. :( I know I know, that doesn't excuse my lack of posts.

I've decided to just update you all with tids and bits from my life as of late. No particular theme, just random stuff.

It's been getting really hot (and humid >_<) here in NYC, but I don't really mind. Being in the office all day has made me really sensitive to bright light, haha like a vampire! So of course, during the weekends I need to go out, even if it's just for a stroll.

Last weekend I went kite flying with my boyfriend and soon ended up playing frisbee.

Here is a picture of the sandals I wore and also the orange polish from the Icing set in the previous post. The formula is really similar to that of China Glaze. Thick but goes on smooth. The colors are also really opaque so one coat may be sufficient.

I've also been doing a lot of shopping lately. This means more OOTD pics to come! But I just wanted to show a picture of these cute key accessories the bf bought from Urban Outfitters. I love pandas and penguins so these were perfect.

Andddd, totally random, but I recently got frogs! They are in a self sustaining ecosystem, which means no cleaning or water changing necessary. All you have to do is feed them twice a week. Each ecosystem comes with two frogs and can be purchased from Brookstone.

Cuteee, right? Haven't thought of names for them yet, but there's one boy and one girl. Any suggestions?

I've also been thinking about cutting my hair, or at least getting a trim. I still want long hair but I just feel like my layers are growing out and weighing the rest of the hair down, aka no volume. What should I do? Should I get bangs (side fringes) as well?

My boyfriend is finally back from school so we decided to chill today. We went to Mitsuwa and a few other places afterwards. Overall just a relaxing and fun day. My boyfriend knew I wanted some China Glaze polishes but had no luck finding them in NY, closest I can go is NJ for these lol. He found a place for these near his school (turned out to be a Sally's lol) and picked this up for me because of the name...

Organizing Lippies and OOTDx2

While I was eating Swedish Fish and Sour Patch the other day, I realized I needed a better way to store my lippies. Better way, meaning that I can actually see the names of the lipsticks. This mainly applies to Mac since I have multiple ones from them. I decided to get creative and used the candy boxes to create a grid like framework that was then inserted into the drawer in which I store my lippies.

Here is the end result:

As promised, here's a swatch of the slimshine I bought last weekend.

It's really smooth and moisturizing but after the color wears off, the sparkles still remain on the lips, much like Viva Glam V. I'm not sure if that's a plus or not but I'm not a huge fan of the just sparkles on the lip look.

Ring from F21. This is still a bit loose on me even thought I got it in the smallest size (6). It doesn't fall off though so it's all good. :) I actually saw one that said LOVE but I didn't buy it and when I went back it was sold out!!

New shades from Ferragamo. LOVE THEM. It looks different from other shades on the market and kinda has that futuristic look to them. They're so sleek but also really fragile since it's frameless.

I picked this up at the CCO. I thought I would've bought more since I've never been there before but this was the only thing I would actually use. I didn't want to swatch this yet so maybe I'll wear it in a future post or something. ;p

Finally picked up some NYX lippies after much raves!! There were more but I think I'll save them for a future giveaway or something.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss + OOTD

Guess who is officially on summer vacation??????? LOL, I just took my last final today. So glad it's over and I am finally on break. Until, next month anyway, because that's when I start work. So after my final today, I went to CVS just to browse but ended up picking these up. I think these are my only lip glosses that have spf 15 in them.

First up is Peach Petal. It's a pale pink that's very comparable to MAC's Boy Bait Cremesheen Glass. I put them side by side so you can see.

Here are the swatches. They look different on the hand but on my lips they are very close.

And since CVS was having a buy one get one half off deal , I picked this one up too.

I also thought that Pink Afterglow sparkles a lot like MAC's dazzleglass, so here's a comparison.

The New 'Do

Thank you all for the hair suggestions! I finally went to get it done today after my final. I decided to get highlights and a slight trim. The color is a mix of ash brown with a hint of blonde (supposedly gets rid of red undertones). I was going for the natural look since I needed something office appropriate. It doesn't look that different from pictures in my previous post, but I think it came out pretty decent.

About 2 weeks ago I purchased two rings from Etsy.

I thought this one was really unique so even though the material wasn't that great, I still bought it. It only comes in one size and they say it's adjustable. I didn't adjust it at all and it seems to fit well. I would say the "default" size is 6.

Next up, is this copper twisted ring. It's super thin and can be made to any size you order.

Because it's thin, I like stacking it with other rings. It doesn't really match my other ring, but I still like it.

I like taking the bus more than taking the subway. I would rather take the bus even when taking the bus would take twice as long to get to the destination. This is only when I'm not in a rush to get somewhere of course.

I have snacking issues. I tend to snack after 9 PM on a daily basis. I also like to eat cup noodles at 3 AM. -_-
Flats hurt my feet. I'm not sure if it's just me, but almost every single pair of flats I've bought end up hurting the sides of my feet. Ironically, the back of my feet never hurt and that's what people complain about the most.
Even though I'm 21, I still like to eat Beefaroni and Alphabet soup. :)
I'm really afraid of heights, but would love to go sky diving one day. I actually dread roller coasters more, lol.

I couldn't help but resist picking something up form the new tokidoki collection at Sephora. Although everything was really cute, I only ended up getting two things that I can really use. Everything else had too much glitter and sparkle for me. The lip glosses looked amazing packaging wise, but on the lips, the colors were pretty much clear. The scent also bothered me. I can't really pinpoint what it was, but it reminded me of cough medicine. >_<

Anyway, so here's the Diamantes palette I picked up:

Out of all the other palettes, I think I would use these the most, aside from the neutrals but I already have a lot. ;p

I also picked up their sugar free mints! I love love love this packaging and it was only 5 bucks.

Sephora by OPI: Sample Sale

I love this color so much that I wanted back ups of it, but it was sold out in every Sephora in NYC. However, Winsley managed to find them and snagged me 3 backups! So now, I have 5 bottles of this total. Crazyyy, ahhaa. I bet I have enough to last me till I'm 50. =P Thanks Winsley! <3

Moving on, I've really been liking this lipgloss lately. It's a peachy coral and I think it would look great on top of MAC's Ever Hip lipstick from the Liberty collection. This is Maybelline's Triple Yum. I'm not sure if this has been discontinued or not, but when I bought it there was a sticker that said "Limited Edition."

This is on my bare lips, nothing under it.

This is pretty random, but I wanted to share some pics of these cute snacks I recently got:

The sponge bob is a marshmallow pop and the fishes are so jellies.

This is a giant gummy bear I got from Dave and Busters. It's so huge, I don't even know how I'm going to finish it.

Hey Lovlies,

I'm sorry for being MIA the past few weeks. Midterms and group projects took over my life. I will definitely post more frequently now that I'm starting to get back on track with things. So what's been up? The great weather, for one thing, has enabled me to finally lose the thick jackets!

Lately, I really like putting my hair up in a bun. Hair out of the face on hot days is the way to go! I also hate it when my hair sticks to my lips because of lipgloss, >_<.

Thank You & Updates!

First off, I would like to thank Cydia and Lisa for tagging me for these awards. So we're supposed to post up the awards on our blog, then list 7 interesting facts.

The Facts:

I have an unhealthy obsession with cute stuffed animals. I love collecting and often run out of space for them. They also all have names. Many have "birthdays" but after a while it was really hard to keep track. Imagine having that many kids, lol!
I LOVE spicy foods. I love spicy noodles, fries, vegetables, pizza...the list is endless. I actually have a hard time eating noodles if they're not spicy. Of course I have to compensate for it by drinking tons of water afterward, but it's so worth it.
I think aliens really exist. Yea, yea, there are theories that try to prove that they're fake, but I'm a believer. Seriously, there are so many different galaxies out there, we can't the only ones.
I like kung fu. I think it's really cool to kick ass. LOL. Really though, I've always like it and even took lessons at one point. I had lessons from a monk that's part of the Shaolin Temple, here in NYC. I think it was up until I got too busy with school work that I had to quit lessons. I also enjoy kung fu films, as exaggerated as some are.
I like bubble tea, without the tapioca. Weird, right? I don't know, but they give me headaches sometimes (maybe from all that chewing) so I've just grown accustomed to not having them in my drinks at all. Of course that's not to say I never get them.
When I was 14, I decided to give myself a haircut out of boredom. I started out by just layering, playing it safe. The next thing I knew, I had a bob, LOL. When I was 17 the same thing happened again, but the damage wasn't as bad. I still had semi-long hair. =) Seeing it might be a 3 year pattern, the next self haircut should be within this year. ;p
From the time when I was younger, up until recent years, I have always disliked the color pink. I just thought it was too girly for my liking and that all the other girls around me were way too obsessed with it for no reason. However, pink seems to be growing on me. >_<

I also wanted to share a few pictures of my recent shoe purchases. I really have to stop with all the shoe buying, lol.

Nike blazers! Took me so long to find these in my size because they usually make them for guys so the smallest size would usually be a men's 6 or 7 which is a women's 8-9.

I love that these are grey, so they pretty much go with my entire wardrobe.

Next up, are these cute boots I got from ZARA.

Loving the stud detailing on the back. My boyfriend doesn't like these metal studs, but whatever, I'm diggin' it. ;p

Mini Shoe "Haul"?

So last week, I went shopping and went a little crazy with the shoe buying. Maybe it was because the weather is getting warmer and we're getting closer to spring/summer but I couldn't resist buying sandals and flats. I really need to cut back on my spending for a while. What is a girl to do?

Within a week, a bought 4 pairs of shoes:

This pair is really comfy because theres an elastic band that allows the shoe to stretch (and retract?) while you're walking.

I like the that the detailing is simple yet not too simple. Can't wait to wear this in the Spring! :)

I wanted to get a pair of sandals this year because last year I couldn't find any that I liked.

Again, I like the simple yet not too simple design.

And I like the the height of the wedge heel. It's about 1.5" to 2". I think it's the perfect height.

I saw this while browsing and it was on sale. Such a good deal, how could I resist? Now I just have to find an occasion to wear it!

I like strappy shoes lol. If you haven't noticed by now, I like simplicity. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

The heel isn't too high, should be pretty comfy!

And well, this pair, I've been wanting to get these FOREVER! Literally, for YEARS but I have grey ones and blue ones as well so I didn't really need them. But this year, I just took the plunge and got it. I need to saveeeee!

So I guess this was a mini "haul"? lol I hope you all are enjoying and making the most of this beautiful weather we've been having. Until next time . . .

Hey lovelies, this is just a quick update before I resume my schoolwork. -_- is how I feel right now. I'd much rather be blogging than finishing my drawing assignment for my still life class.

But anyway, here's the FOTD:

Recently, I've noticed that my lashes have gotten longer, or maybe it's just the way I'm applying mascara. No idea, but I just wanted to include some pictures.
